One can download the GROMACS test set using cvs: 

  cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.gromacs.org:/home/gmx/cvs co test

and likewise for the manual: 

  cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.gromacs.org:/home/gmx/cvs co manual
